I just made a board game purchase decision based solely on the quality of it’s minis. It was a toss up between Pandemic (holding a 7.555 rating on BGG) and Claustrophobia (a ghost’s shadow behind at 7.484).

Not that I give a giant sewer rat’s ass about the difference in score. No, it pretty much came down to this:

versus this:

I’m sure Pandemic will be my next purchase following Claustrophobia. That or Space Alert. Or Mice & Mystics

Is this attraction to style over substance an affliction that all boardlings* suffer from?

IN OTHER NEWS!

I’ve joined the ranks of the UK Gaming Media Network. A hub site featuring the UK’s most active and knowledgeable tabletop bloggers - and me. From UKGMN you will have easy access to the latest reviews, blogs, vlogs (that’s a video blog, folks) and ramblings from all over the country. They’re at the UK Games Expo in Birmingham next week and will be livestreaming all sorts of board game related fuckery. I’ll be watching.

So, Claustrophobia should be with me on Tuesday and I think I might do some sort of ‘unboxing’. That is to say, of course I’ll be opening the box, but and also plus DOCUMENTING the “event” with pictures or even a video**!

P.S. A woeful response to my request of renaming the blog from Dice Bag to something a little less dickish has resulted in the name Dice Bag remaining. Probably forever.

* ‘Boardling’ is a word I just invented. It means, new board game player. I am a boardling. If there is a more common word or term then I don’t want to know about it. It won’t be better than ‘boardling’.
